Tuesday..

Let's see--
Conner stayed over night on Friday night.  Saturday morning we sorted out the Construx we found in the attic closet from the legos and Lincoln Logs.  He added more pieces to his tower as we found interesting parts.  When I told him we would need another box for when we take his tower apart,  he looked at me in total seriousness as only a 5 year old can and said, "But Grandma, we need to keep it for MY grandchildren to play with!"

Sunday was the 56th annual Peck family reunion in Chippewa Falls. My mom, DH, DS-1, DIL-1, Kasey and Cole drove down.  As long as Cole had his John Deere truck to push around we know exactly where to find him. 

DS-2 and  Family had a commitment at the Musky Festival in Hayward.    He drove his  military truck in the parade to promote VBS at his F-I-L's church.

Yesterday I rode with DH to take a load of steers to the sales barn at Rock Creek, MN.  I always take along a tote bag of quilting magazines,  my daily devotional and journal,  and a novel.  Once we get there I sit in the truck while he watches the steers sell.   It is a time when I actually am forced to sit, read, and think.  It is a little over an hour each way.

One the way home we stop for an ice cream cone at Burnett Dairy.

This morning DIL-2 came to use my computer and printer.  Tatum stayed to spend the day.

When you brush out Tatum's curly hair it may hold for 5 minutes..then back to the ringlets all over her head!















Tomorrow I am driving a co-worker to physical therapy in the morning.  She had knee replacement surgery the first week after school.
We both  have a RTI meeting at school in the afternoon.  I will drive her to our meeting then back home.

One more thing...I have been working at night on the baby quilt top.  It needs seams pressed..But for now.. There will be corner blocks and "piano keys" border. I did put the different shaped star in the center. The corner blocks are the same star.

Where did this week go?

I am wondering when I have time to teach during the school year.

On Monday I picked up Conner from Summer School.  He will be starting Kindergarten this year.  I have been working on cleaning out attic closets.  We were working on the dormer attic in DS-2's room.   We found his daddy's Construx, Legos, Lincoln Logs, and an Erector set.  Conner was thrilled.  .  He had fun trying out the Construx. He is definitely his father's son!

Tuesday and Wednesday I kept cleaning.  DH was gone on Wednesday so I filled the dumpster with loads from the upstairs closets.  Today I had Jessica ( 16 months) for the morning-she is really developing her own personality!

At night I have been working on blocks for a baby quilt.  I have three quilts to make for babies this fall.  I know one will be a girl.   I found a pattern on Connecting Threads website called, "Oh My Stars Sampler".   I used soft pinks and gray. (Moda's Puttin' On the Ritz layer cake.)

I have to decide how to work the sashing yet. The original pattern suggested bright pink, green, blue and yellow.  Then using the colors as the sashing strips.  I  may lay it out with strips of the fabrics I used. Also, I don't like the 9th block.  It is a totally different star.  I am thinking of making a block already in the quilt in different fabrics.

On Friday I have Kasey and Cole.  We spend a fun day together,  it gives the day care lady a three day weekend with her family, and saves DIL-1 the cost of a daycare once a week during the summer.   Friday night DIL-2 & DS-2 are attending a young adult marriage seminar at their church. They bring their three here for a couple of hours.   I am so blessed to be able to spend  time with my grandkids and be a part of their lives.

Friday Night Sew In Results--MUF's

 WooHoo!  A successful Friday Night Sew In! Two MUFs (Masterpiece Under Fermentation) are finished! 

 

I can't decide if this should be a wall hanging or a table runner--well a square table runner. It is 24 X 24.  I am planning on making another one with the same pattern. However, I have changes in mind! I just may give this one as a gift to a friend who has a birthday in a few days.  

         My second finish was  hand sewing the binding on one of my 12 1/2 in blocks.   The wooden stars are from a craft site I found in The Country Sampler, Scrap Happy Creations. They are a"Mom and Pop" industry out of their home who make great wooden crafts.  I have ordered several things from them.  Check them out!  I am anxious for you to see the something special they made for a give away during the Blog Hop in July!

With a Kiss For Luck We Were On Our Way!

Thirty eight years ago  DH and I started on our journey together.   Our friends sang the  traditional mid 70's wedding songs The Carpenters  "We've Only Just Begun,"   and " Where There is Love-The Wedding Song."   As in all marriages we have had our joys:   the birth of three sons, two wonderful daughters-in-love, and now soon to be six precious grandchildren.  We were heartbroken when our oldest son was killed when he was four years old in an accident on our farm.  Most of the time we have remained friends.. There are times I didn't like him very much--but never stopped loving him!

A couple of month ago Tatum looked up and noticed our wedding picture.  She looked for a moment and the said, as only a 2 1/2 year old could, "Grandma, you're a princess!"  Weren't we all princesses on our wedding day!

Tonight is the Friday Night Sew-In!  I have a couple of MUF (Masterpiece Under Fermentation) that I would like to finish.

Does anyone have a book or source to learn how to do paper piecing?  Now that I have started on my way of conquering my fear of applique,  I would like learn how to quilt with paper piecing.

 I Corinthians 13:13  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I'm confused?

I thought when school was out I was supposed to find "me" time!

Last week Monday and Tuesday DIL-1 didn't have day care. So the first day of summer vacation DH wanted us to ride with him to look at machinery on a farm auction. (Just what I was anxious to do on my first day of summer vacation.)  We stopped at McDonald's  on the way back.  You can tell where I rate.  The opposite side of the table with DH making faces at me!
The rest of the week:
*attended an RTI  (Response To Invention) meeting at school
*watched Tatum and Jessica 4 hours on Wednesday afternoon
*picked up 5- 5 qt buckets of strawberries to make jelly and freeze--and of course eat.

*-Ran errands with DH.
*  Conner, Tatum, and Jessica were here while DS-2 and DIL-2  attended a young couples marriage seminar at their church. 
*Attended the Dairy Breakfast at the fairgrounds
*Went to a baby shower on Saturday afternoon--no quilt for this one.. My friend is a quilter and this is her first grandbaby.

However!  Sunday afternoon DH was spreading fertilizer so I did add the stars to my block!  I still have to do the hand sewing of the binding.  I really did the applique WooHoo!

While looking for a certain pattern I found a zip lock bag with these inside. I have no idea what they were for or when I cut or sewed them.  Oh MY!  I must have been losing it!

Oh-- I did try something new.  Some of you are so creative...You can take an old chair, set a flower pot on it and it looks great...For me I would set a flower pot on an old chair and it looks like a flower pot on an old chair..  see!






So---- I took spray paint to my old chair...

Another first from my kitchen window!

When I was washing dishes on Wednesday night, I could see something moving on the shoulder of the road.  It was moving in and out of the weeds.  Of course I had to investigate.  I found a snapping turtle.  It is so ugly!    I have no desire to try Turtle Stew!                                    

No matter who it was--Jordie would fetch sticks  or Frisbee's as long as someone would keep throwing them.

 It didn't scan very well, but when DS-1 was a freshman in college he gave me this plaque for Christmas.  It reads, "Home is really spelled MOM."  Love that guy!

Stars or No Stars

I'm working on another 12 1/2" block.  What do you think?  Stars or no stars?  Stars of a different fabric / different color?  Felted wool was suggested but I don't know where to find any locally.

Visiting My Flowers

While working outside this afternoon I saw this interesting "creature" fluttering around a planter.

 I was able to snap a few pictures while it sucked from the blossoms.

Between goggling striped hummingbird and facebook friends, I learned it is called a White-Lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth.  It was the first time I have ever seen one.  Several of my facebook friends have them around their flowers this year also.

 Last fall DIL-2's grandma was digging up one of her perennial gardens.  DH and I went out to dig up several varieties of perennials.  The problem this spring is that I didn't label them.

 For now I am waiting for them to bloom to know what is a flower and what could be weeds.
