Summer Time -Happy 4th of July

Summer has finally arrived in Northwest Wisconsin.  It was a long time coming.  Our weather has been as unpredictable as the rest of the country.  

The first week of June was Tatum, Jessa and Kylie's dance recital.   

I have completed a couple of quilting projects. This was a free runner pattern from All People Quilt.  I should have read the entire pattern before cutting.  I wasted a great deal of fabric when sewing the flying geese.  I would have used the no waste method!

It was supposed to be a gift, ended up as a gift for me.













I stepped out of my security box when I selected the Mommy & Me pattern to make as a gift. I used machine applique on the elephants and balloons.  Katy loved it.

Colby rode his bike across the trail from their home to our house on Wednesday.  He brings his John Deere tote bag ( on the couch behind him) which contains some of his John Deere toys and his six year old baby blanket. He allowed me to take a picture of his well used blanket. I offered to sew on new borders and a new binding.  He told me he likes it as it is.  It goes to bed with him every night.

I have two Christmas tree skirts to work on in the next few weeks.

Oh, have I mentioned lately I love being Grandma!  Eight of the nine were at our house for lunch unexpectedly.  Love it...Hot dogs, grilled cheese, applesauce, milk and juice. An ok spur of the moment lunch!

Mother's Day Reflection

This Mother's Day has been a day of reflection. I thank our Lord for a Christian mom who prays for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 I am thankful for the privilege and blessing of being a mom to three wonderful sons.

Our oldest son, Travis, with Herb.  One day we will be holding our precious four year old when we reach heaven.

Progress!

I am moving much better.  It has been a long winter and spring.

So far,  I am beginning to walk in the house without my cane.  Outside or away from home,  I need it for balance and security.


Waiting for the day I will be able to work in my flower beds and do the spring cleanup outside.












I completed one tree skirt for a wedding shower to be given this Sunday afternoon.  I have two more to go for up coming weddings.

Spring has been slow coming to Northwest Wisconsin.  The temperature is in mid 50's to mid 30's at night.   The poplar trees are beginning to have a red cast to them in preparation for leaves appearing.

Four bears cubs from last year were spotted crossing one of our corn fields.

Two weeks ago the swans returned to the pond across the road from our home.  I love watching for them each spring. Yes, that is snow on the hillside behind the pond.

Hello Friends!

Spring if finally beginning to arrive in Northern Wisconsin.

Deer season in Wisconsin is an just about a holiday!  This year two grandsons were in the deer stands with their dads  when Papa (DH) shot his buck.   Once the calls were made both boys came running through the woods to see it!  They were as excited as Papa!  After his major heart surgery in 2017 and knee replacement this past fall, we were all thrilled for him.




In December I finally had my quilting mojo return!

First:
Christmas gifts: Three of the five aprons I sewed for granddaughter, great-niece, and friends.

Pieced two Christmas tree skirts:

I finished a shower gift for a former neighbor and his wife.  They are a rodeo family.  I had been saving fabric for this baby. 










 On January 13 I fell on the ice in our yard.  Thankfully, I had my cell phone to call  DH in the house.  To shorten the story: 911 call to send an ambulance while I laid on the ice waiting,  x-ray showed a broken femur, surgery the following morning for reconstruction and repair.  Just call me the Bionic-transformer Granny!

The rod goes down 3/4 the way to my knee with a pin to hold it in place.  The bolt goes into the hip.


After eight weeks with a walker, I am finally using a cane. Woohoo.






I had one more Christmas tree skirt cut out.  I managed to sit at my sewing machine a little each day after the first four weeks to sew it together.




Hopefully soon I will be able to sandwich and quilt the skirts for wedding gifts later this spring!
