Tackling MUF's & The Last Day of The Blog Hop

MUF's is a term given by Kelly of Charming Chatter.  Sometimes I am not pleased with how something is turning out so I put it away for awhile.. Other times, well you all know about other times and projects.  First project I sandwiched and quilted this weekend was a crib quilt from a tutorial on Kelly's site.    I need to finish the binding and it will be the first baby quilt in the stack for this fall and winter.     I realized that I am going to need SEVEN baby quilts between October and February!                    
Next project I sandwiched was Conner's Cars quilt.  I hope to start quilting yet tonight.



This afternoon I sorted fabric to find what I have for a baby girl quilt for October.  When I asked Sadie what colors she would like her response was, "I'd like to do her nursery very vintage floral/romantic....can't wait for all the pink!"  I found  Oasis  by 3 Sisters in my stash, I think they will work for a Shabby Chic look.  Any suggestions or opinions??  (After looking at this picture I might take out the reddish ones and go with pinks, aquas and yellows!)

 Tomorrow is supposed to be another hot day with the temperature forecast to be 96 deg. Like much of the rest of the midwest we need rain.  For a week in early June we had a full week of heavy rain. It is gone. The corn and soybean fields are under severe stress.

We celebrated Tatum's 3rd birthday on Saturday with home waterpark.  DS-2 has built a play set for the kids from what was the front deck on their house.  Another grandma bought the tube slide for them. DS-2 attached a sprinkler hose to the top of the slide.
 Then fastened the Slip & Slide to the bottom.
 Out came Conner..All the kids loved it!
Especially the birthday girl!
 I am so very blessed!

One more day to the Red, White and Blue Blog Hop!  It has been great.  I have "meet' so many awesome quilters and many great ideas.  Check out the last day on Monday!

Welcome to the Red, White & Blue Blog Hop Day 12

Welcome to Beautiful Northern Wisconsin

This is my first experience as a hostess for a blog hop. 
 Thank you for stopping in to visit. 
I am thrilled to be part of the hop with so many talented and creative quilters.   My quilting is definitely not to the expert level.  I use my quilting as a way to clear my mind and relax at the end of the day.    This is my only true Red, White and Blue block. 

  
Through out the year I share the view from my kitchen window with my blogging friends.

I found the pattern for this block called, "Glory In Scraps" at Marcia Hohn Quilter Cache. The service woman in the picture is the daughter of the secretary at school.  Angela has served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a veterinarian caring for the dogs used by the service men and women.

My first attempt at applique! I have had a mental block with attempting applique.  This block is another Marcia Hohn's patterns, "Amerihearts At Home".  What is more could need than Stars & Stripes and  apple pie! I practiced FMQ to quilt stars on the background fabric.

I made a few changes to the "Folk Art Salute" which was designed by Kathy Flowers for the June/July 2012 McCall's Quick Quilts. My first applique went so well I was excited to try it again!

Tomorrow Is My Day!


I think I am ready for the hoppers to arrive tomorrow.  I have been in awe of the fantastic projects made by so many talented quilters.  One thing I have learned is that everyone has their own style and is dedicated to  their love for quilting. 


Summer is going fast...Last week I had one or more grandkids each day.  I had Jessica by herself for 2 days!  FUN! She thinks it is fun to stand on the wooden rocking chair and rock.

 I have been cleaning and then cleaning more. Monday I started to tackle the basement.  Remember, we live in a 62 year old farm house. So our basement is a basement.   I hauled out enough black bags to fill our small dumpster.  Old clothes,  shoes, and lots of junk!! 


Yesterday we were back at Abbott Heart Institute in Minneapolis for another appointment for DH.  There were more changes of medication.  It has been six months since the ablations and three months since the last cardio-version.  The cardiac physiologist,  a cardiologist who deals with arrhythmia's of the heart, is changing the meds to evaluate the effectiveness  of the ablation.  It has been along three years starting with the mitral valve replacement, 3 cardio versions,  and ablations.  We are both ready for him to be feeling better! I was able to spend over an hour studying quilting magazines..Lots of ideas..now, when I find MY time...........

Perfect Dessert for Summertime!

My usual contribution to the 4th of July picnic is a Strawberry Blueberry Trifle.   It is easy to make and always is a hit. 

Strawberry Blueberry Trifle

SERVINGS: 14
TIME: Prep/Total Time: 20 min.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 2 packages instant white chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 prepared angel food cake (14 ounces), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 4 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/2 cup whole strawberries, halved

Directions:

In a large bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix for 2 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.
Place a third of the cake cubes in a trifle bowl or 3-1/2-qt. glass serving bowl. Top with a third of the pudding, 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1-1/2 cups blueberries and a third of the whipped topping. Layer with a third of the cake and pudding, 1 cup strawberries and a third of the whipped topping.
Top with remaining cake, pudding, strawberries, blueberries and whipped topping. Serve immediately or cover and chill until serving. Yield: 14 servings.

***Sometimes I mix the whipped topping with the pudding.

Fun Friday at Gramma's House


What is the best way to spend a Friday at Gramma's when it is almost 90 degrees?  Well, of course it  outside on the Slip 'N Slide!



Of course, Cole had to take time out of playing for some tractor driving.

Cole didn't like the sliding part-but did love the running through the mini pool at the end.

                                     Tatum and Jessica arrived later--We didn't have long.
